Kuala Lumpur, 5th December 2012- The makers of XALF, a bespoke online footwear label, have released Xpression to its ranks in the shape of customisable heels for the well-heeled modern woman. To celebrate its launch, a sophisticated soiree heralded the label’s debut. Held at the jazz-infused setting of Bentley Gallery, Pavilion KL, it proved to be the appropriate venue for such a joyous occasion.
A welcome address by Aliza Kim began the evening with guests ushered into the showroom where both founders shared some insights into their collaboration. Led by Xavier Mah, the philosophy of XALF was elaborated in a stimulating fashion that relayed how his dream venture came to life.
“I had the privilege of spending some time in New York last year and was greatly influenced by the sleek metropolitan vibes and the bohemian touch that applies traditional craftsmanship,” he explains, “The emergence of Sarah Jessica Parker and Sex and the City ladies made it even more glamorous, attributing to our insanity.”
Bringing guests further into the world of Xpression, Xavier also introduced designer Alfred Hor - who thanked everyone for coming. He gave his take on the thought process that went into crafting each unique made-to-order peep-toe, strappy heel and sky-high platforms. First-of-its-kind heels are also interchangeable and one can determine the accessories to be placed on the heel counters.
The interesting aspect of home-grown label XALF Design comes courtesy of a virtual boutique that offers customisation options catering to every whim and fancy. Classic looks are recreated with a modern touch, and they individually exude an appreciation for heritage and attention to detail.
“We’re also delighted to have SENATUS, an online luxury magazine as our official online media partner,” says Xavier. “It is much appreciated that the winners of the Silver Award in 2012 and the Gold in 2010 at the Asian Digital Awards would be assisting our budding label in reaching an international platform through the Internet.”
Each Xpression creation is specially designed and accessorised according to the preference of anyone who logs on to our website (xalfdesign.com) or give us a call for an appointment,” he says. “Our personalised service will ensure that you get impeccable vintage craftsmanship (with genuine calfskin leather) and high-society aesthetics for a perfect fit that is yours alone. This is our proudest creation yet.”
Guests had the pleasure of being served with Kronenbourg 1664 beer as they admired the Xpression range at close quarters. They were then treated to a cool Latin fusion dance performance by So You Think You Can Dance 1st Season winner, Cecilia Yong, who was chauffeured in a Bentley to rapturous applause of those in attendance.
An exquisite December night for a very fine new label would culminate with an Xpression inspired fashion showcase, featuring luminaries such as Datuk Yasmin Yusuff, Dato’ Ruby Khong, Mizz Nina, Dynas Mokhtar, Datin Reiss Tiara, Thanuja Ananthan, Debbie Goh, Chris Tong, Cecilia Yong, Elianna, Cassandra Patrick, Dian Sharlin and Beatrice Au.
The crowd was awed as they strutted down the runway in elaborate hairdos courtesy of Backstage Academy. They were clearly having a ball as they placed their best-feet-forward with their own bespoked Xpression creation that clearly enhanced and showcased their sassy personalities and individuality, with some wearing carefully selected outfits from Australian label Katelyn Aslett.
It was clearly a proud moment for the two young founders who handpicked these notable personalities to realise their dreams of carving their niche and seeing how far their talents will take them.
In a fitting conclusion to the night’s festivities, talented violinist Joshua Kua – who performed previously with the Victoria Opera in Australia – entertained the audience, Then a lucky draw was held which saw a very fortunate guest walking away with an appointment with XALF for a pair of exclusive handmade Xpression.
