Breitling - Chronomat Airborne

30 years of the pilot’s chronograph

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its flagship Chronomat model, Breitling is launching a special series with a resolutely technical and professional look. It encapsulates the entire spirit of this legendary chronograph that has become a reference in the field of pilot’s instruments.

In the early 1980s, Ernest Schneider – to whom Willy Breitling had just sold his firm – learned that the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian airforce aerobatics team, had issued a bid for tender on their first official watch. He accordingly decided to create a brand-new aviation chronograph specifically designed for pilots’ needs. This instrument was developed in close cooperation with the squadron. All details of the construction and exterior were designed to meet the demands of aviation professionals – be it the sturdiness of the case, the profile of the lugs, the readability of the dial and the ergonomic shape of the pushpieces and crown. Won over by this ultra-functional, avant-garde and elegant chronograph, the Italian flying aces voted in its favor and the official Frecce Tricolori watch was launched in 1983.

The leading Breitling collection
Keenly aware of having created an instrument enshrining the brand’s entire philosophy and mission, Ernest Schneider chose to make this model the new flagship of the Breitling spirit. In 1984, the firm celebrated its 100th anniversary in grand style by launching its mainstream Chronomat collection. Over the past three decades, this exceptional chronograph has witnessed an evolution in its aesthetic expressed through a sequence of subtle adjustments – all the while maintaining its immediately recognizable character and style. Breitling has constantly improved its performances in terms of sturdiness, functionality, precision and reliability. In 2009, the Chronomat was the first model in the range to host the new Manufacture Breitling calibers. As the leader of the Breitling collection, it has established itself as an authentic horological classic – the embodiment of a world dedicated to performance, great feats and transcending existing limits.

A Chronomat Airborne special series
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its best-seller, Breitling has created a special series reviving the design and the spirit of the original Frecce Tricolori chronograph. This Chronomat Airborne is distinguished by its satin-brushed rotating bezel equipped with four raised rider tabs serving to count off flight times, while facilitating rotation even with gloved hands. The result is an edgy, technical and sophisticated appearance. The sturdy steel case with its polished finish is available in two 41 and 44 mm sizes, while the dial comes in two versions: black with silver-toned counters, and silver-toned with black counters. The caseback is engraved with the inscription “Edition Spéciale 30e Anniversaire” (Special 30th Anniversary Edition) as well as the outline of an Aermacchi, one of the ten planes flown by the Italian flight squadron. In keeping with its aeronautical vocation, the Chronomat Airborne is fitted with an ultra-sturdy strap in black military-type fabric, secured by a folding clasp. Onboard is a Manufacture Breitling Caliber 01 selfwinding high-performance movement, chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), as indeed are all the engines powering the Breitling fleet. A new chapter in the history of pilot’s chronographs.

Breitling: Chronomat 44 GMT “Patrouille Suisse 50th Anniversary”

Half a century of airborne feats

Breitling celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Patrouille Suisse by dedicating to this exceptional team an exclusive version of the Chronomat, complete with personalized dial and engraved caseback. Issued in a 1,000-piece limited edition, this authentic aviation chronograph once again reflects the special ties between the Swiss brand and the world’s elite pilots.

In 2014, Switzerland and the aviation world are celebrating a double milestone: the 100th anniversary of the Swiss Air Force and the 50th anniversary of the Patrouille Suisse.

1964 saw the official creation of an aerobatics team composed of professional air force pilots. Initially comprising four and later five British Hawker Hunter Mk 58 jet fighters, the Patrouille Suisse switched to six planes in 1978 and began giving its first demonstrations beyond national borders. Since 1995, it has established itself as one of the rare aerobatics teams on supersonic jets by flying six American F-5E Tiger II fighter aircraft recognizable by their red and white livery. An outstanding ambassador of Swiss precision and excellence, the Patrouille Suisse regularly performs at shows around Europe, providing stunning displays that delight spectators and have already earned it numerous distinctions.

An authentic aviation chronograph
As a privileged partner of aviation, Breitling enjoys a longstanding relationship with the Patrouille Suisse that has already led to the creation of several personalized models. The brand now joins the team’s 50th anniversary celebrations by launching a limited edition of its stellar Chronomat model in its dual-time version. An authentic wrist instrument for pilots, this mechanical chronograph featuring a sturdy satin-brushed steel case is distinguished by a black dial bearing the flight team logo at 9 o’clock, framed by a rotating bezel with inlaid rubber numerals. The second hour hand, tipped by the outline of a red F-5E Tiger II, serves to display the second timezone in 24-hour mode in a very simple manner via an extremely practical crown-adjustment system. The 24-hour scale on the bezel also enables a third timezone reading. The engraved caseback bears the official 50th anniversary logo, topped by the limited-edition number. Water-resistant to 200 meters (660 ft), the Chronomat 44 GMT “Patrouille Suisse 50th Anniversary” houses Manufacture Breitling Caliber B04, a selfwinding chronograph movement entirely developed and produced by Breitling and chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), the highest benchmark in terms of precision and reliability and the only one based on an international norm. Sturdiness and high performance expressed in a technical and masculine style: a fine tribute to 50 years of airborne feats.

The New Classics Art Déco Oval Range from Frédérique Constant

From the day our company was born, Frédérique Constant has been passionately driven to produce timepieces of immense, classic and timeless beauty; watches that are as glamorous and elegant as they are reliable and technologically advanced.

The all-new Classics Art Déco Oval range, which features no fewer than nine new models, has taken the concept of “affordable luxury,” upon which we were founded, to completely new levels, and perhaps it’s just as well.  When the ladies see the spectacular design features available throughout the range, it’s quite possible they’re going to want more than one Art Déco model in their jewellery box.

Unquestionably gorgeous, unfailingly reliable

Each watch in the range is powered by the FC-200 quartz caliber movement, with seven jewels and a battery life that will give more than five years (63 months) of unrivalled accuracy. The stunning, three-part, highly polished and oval-shaped case will fit comfortably on the most petite wrist, measuring just 30mm x 25mm.

Other features shared throughout the range include the convex sapphire crystal protecting the dial, the hour and minute functions, and the wonderfully delicate guilloché decoration in the centre of the dial.  And don’t be fooled by their delicate appearance; each Art Déco Oval watch is water resistant to 30 feet below sea level.

Each model is a unique work of art

Whether the lady prefers a rich, lustrous yellow gold case or highly polished stainless steel; whether she fancies carefully hand-applied, polished Arabic or Roman numerals; whether she wants the watch to be strapped to her wrist with grey satin, brown satin, yellow gold plated or stainless steel bracelets, she’ll find the features she craves throughout the new Art Déco Oval range.

Our designers held nothing back.  Dials come finished in silver, with several models featuring mother of pearl inlay, and of course, we couldn’t forget a lady’s very best friend.  The FC-200MPW2VD6 model comes with no fewer than 78 sparkling diamonds set into the bezel and horns.

Watches in the all-new Art Déco Oval range start at RM2,800, a reasonable price for a hand made Swiss watch of this quality.
